Utterly Dispicable Flying

“As we fly over the endless layers of mountains, deserts, rivers and plains, I can’t help but be exceedingly impressed. Now, as I pass over yet another category of America, I am able to add to the list of places I have seen.   Never before has the endlessness of flying seemed so fascinating. Ankh! How beautiful it is above the clouds.”
This is what I said the first time we traveled this week. That trip was long enough, but we have to catch several flights for this trip home, and in addition we have to wait a long time in between. Also, we are very tired, because we woke up early to pack and leave. When we flew in, we flew into the Palm Springs airport, which was literally five minutes from our condo. But, because we purchased our tickets late this year, we had to fly out of LAX, which happened to be two hours away. So, that is how we ended up, at nine o’clock, leaving paradise to go to a far away airport.
Just recently, we said farewell to our dad (who is taking a direct flight) and we hopped on an hour plane ride to San Francisco.  On the flight the soda was decent, and Sadie and I got to sit next to each other, but now we are sitting at the airport, (thankfully with wi-fi and internet) doing nothing but blogging. My dear neighbor is blogging on Barnabas’ behalf. We need to be on our flight to our O’Hare in three hours, and we are really just “killing time” as my mom said. Well if we are going to be murderers of time, we might as well have fun!
So we walked around the airport and then boarded our flight.  Very simple, no? But the tricky part was that we got home by 1:30 am. Abe was sound asleep, Sadie was a grump, and I just kept working on my book. For now, we’re home from vacation, but we all are recognizing that changes are on the horizon.

Our Last day at Palm Springs: Thursday

Today could have been the worst day of all vacation, with it being the last full day and all, but because it was my mom’s birthday, we didn’t have a choice. We made her a gourmet breakfast in bed and then, with our neighbor, we had a blogging party where we all worked on posts. Then, much to our glee, we went on a tram ride.
It was hard enough to get us out the door, but we had to “pack” too. Altogether, we barely made the 9:15 tramride. But, even as we sat panting from the uphill run from the parking lot to the building and from the lobby to the station, we were astounded at the huge altitude which we were soaring over.
I took about a hundred photos, but unfortunately I am unable to post them because I forgot my camera cord. But even if I had been able to post them how would I be able to capture the experience? How could I capture the view I saw from a rock nearly 9000 feet above the ground? Or how could capture Abe’s astonishment that the floor was revolving in the tram? Anyhow, I wish I had brought my camera cord.
We hiked at the national park at the top of the mountain, and by the time we got back to earth, we were famished. So, we went to the world’s best bakery/cafĂ© and ate a hearty lunch. Next, as you may have guessed, we went swimming…twice, while my mom went birthday shopping.
Now, we are at “Islands: Fine burgers and drinks.” We are here with our dear neighbors, our aunt, uncle and cousins, and our grandparents. I, having gone on a ice-cream strike, missed two meals yesterday, and I am feeling the results.

Three New (but not nessesarily exciting) Things That Happened on the Past Day

Hello. In the past couple hours, I have made three realizations:

1. It is my mother's birthday!!!
My Response: I made her a gormet feast in bed.

2. My mom just made a blog.
My Response: "Ankh! I have waited YEARS for this! I am SO going to follow it! "

3. This is the last full day that a) we will be together as a family in America, and b)that we will be in Palm Springs.
My Response: " We must cherish the time left we have together."

Going, Going,

Gone.

As of a few hours ago, when I woke up, we began the final packing for Palm Springs:  carry-ons. I am packing:

  • My mini laptop
  • My kindle
  • My camera
  • My wallet
  • A book that I don't have on my kindle
  • a pencil case
  • a notebook
  • And other little oddities like gum for my motion sickness
  • Oh yes, and knitting (of course)
I hope the plane trip will fly with these useful items. I am really looking forward to the plane flight and what comes with it, soda, snacks, takeoff, landing, but what I am looking for just as much is how we are going to get there. For one thing, we are going there in a LIMO, which I have never been in before, and secondly, I just love airports and the general business that our large airport is.

I am super exited about the "flying" thing, but most of all, I am exited because we are going with our dear neighbors.

Limo, takeoff, and landing, here I come!

P.S Based on the fact that there is no internet connection, I will have to post my thoughts and photos after we land.

P.P.S I have decided that whenever I am NOT at home, I will have this airplane background as my background.

A Ten-Second Update

Hello! Sorry for the delay, but with packing and all, our life just got a whole lot more complicated. Last week we sent out our sea shipment, and now we can relax a bit and think about our yearly trip to Palm Springs, CA, which we are leaving for tomorrow. Because we were packing and sorting our clothes anyway for the sea shipment, we decided to pack for Palm Springs also. However, we have had a very early spring, and for the past couple weeks it has been 80 degrees +. Therefore, we have had to raid our suitcases!  Still, packing should be a breeze this year.  Next time you hear from me I'll be writing from the West Coast.
