An Explanation

Dear Friends,
This blog is experiencing some technical difficulties. By this I mean that the tabs above (a.k.a. pages) are not working for various reasons. I have valiantly tried, and in fact am still trying to get them to work. Until they work, please look at the side of my blog at the gadget that says,

"Also on Mia's Musings..."

Because there you will have the links and an overview of what has been posted on and what has not. Or you could just remember the url's below.

New Cheese Sauce Recipe

I really don't enjoy spaghetti very much anymore. It was one of the only things we knew how to make in the first month or so, so Ella is the only one who really enjoys it anymore. So I made a delicious cheese sauce to have instead of tomato sauce.

You can find the recipe here.

(P.S add salt and pepper to taste)

A Tribute

My Dear Friends,
8 months and 31 days ago, Marwin was beckoned into the light despite heroic efforts to save her. Beloved chicken and pet, her death remains fresh in my mind. The dear thing's memory, previously forgotten, is to be renewed by a simple tribute.

For my 12th birthday, Sadie and Mommy got me a candle.  I dearly love candles, and this candle is extra special.

I solemnly dedicate this candle to the Memory of Marwin.

A Normal School Day

I woke up this morning at 6:30 am. I had dreamt about many things, terrible and bizarre. I was ready to wake up. Or, I was ready to wake up mentally, my body didn't quite agree. 19 minutes later I checked the clock again.

You really should get up, I told myself harshly. You're being lazy, and cruel, and abominable.

You're mean. I whined. I really did intensely dislike my morning self. But I got up. I showered, I had a steamed milk. I forgave my cruel morning self for waking me up as I sipped sublimity itself. Breakfast was rolls from dinner on Monday, and porridge. And hot coca, but that was only a beverage.

School was the same as usual.

Bible.

Manners.

Language arts.

Math.

Which brings me to the present. Break. I'm rather sleepy. It could be the consequence of going to bed five minute past bedtime: 8:00, or it could be the consequence of dreaming things terrible and bizarre. Either way. This is a normal school day. I don't want to be tired again, so I think that I might got to bed earlier- at 8:01.

8:00 just seems too early, and I really do like going to bed late.

An Update on my Family

Sadie:

In Ella's Words:

  • Getting better at doing her homework; becoming prettier.
In Abe's Words:
  • Becoming more patient and is rarely mean or cruel.
In Mia's Words:
  • Sadie is becoming very mature. She is becoming more adult-like, for better or worse!

Abe:

In Ella's Words:
  • He isn't that different. He is getting tall.
In Sadie's Words:
  • He isn't cute Abey-Baby any more. He is more rough and wild.
In Mia's Words:
  • Abe no longer abides to be walked over by his sisters. He is decidedly a boy now, and has stepped out of all the feminine shadows that we have cast.

Ella:

In Sadie's Words:

  • Ella still has the lovely optimistic spirit that she had when she left America. She hasn't changed in that manner.
In Abe's Words:
  • She is being really friendly and plays with me more.
In Mia's Words:
  • The rich European style is having an impact on Ella! If she was fashionable and suave before, she is most certainly now!

Barnabas:

  • Barnabas is becoming much more cultured. He prefers Alpine Spring water to tap water.
  • He has developed a taste for Melatonin.
  • He insists on going EVERYWHERE with us.

Mia:

I really don't think that I have changed much. Yes, I might have grown an inch or two, and yes my tastes have expanded past what was thought possible, but I will always be

Yours Truly,

Mia.

Happy Birthday, Dear Mia

Hello! I had the most wonderful birthday several days ago. And the wonderful part of it wasn't just based on the fact that I got every thing on my official birthday list.

Mia’s Official Birthday List

1.     A very soft sweater
2.   A pair of thick woolen socks
3.    Candle
4.   Candle holder
5.    Apron
6.   Recipe book
7.    Oven mitts
8.   Kindle gift card ()
9.   Yarn
10. Hot Water Heater (for my bedroom!)

I love birthdays. This one was especially nice. We had Pannenkoeken for breakfast, we had leftovers for lunch, and homemade potato-bacon soup for dinner. I lit my candle (my new obsession) and we all watched Lark-Rise to Candleford. I love my birthday. I love birthdays in general. Happy Birthday, Dear Mia!

P.S I think that there will be an entirely picture post sometime soon. Probably. I'll check with my schedule.

Shades of Grey

Before I moved here, my family saw everything black and white. Abe, for instance, saw everybody as a good guy or a bad guy. But living here, we are starting to see the world in shades of grey.

Literally.

Look at this sky. I wake up to this most mornings. This is one shade of grey that we see all the time.

Look at this dog. You may know him.
Look at this muzzle. My dog is turing grey. He is my other shade of grey.

I have lots of grey in my life, but one thing that is black and white is the birthday of a special aunt. Happy Birthday, Aunt Katie! Look, we made you a cake!

Actually, that cake is for my birthday, which is tomorrow, but anyway, Happy Birthday!

Hair- It Grows and Grows!

Sometimes I feel as if all the good hair-DNA was concentrated and given to Sadie. I might sound crazy, but it is true. Although I had hair for two years before Sadie, she has such thick hair now that it doesn't really matter. I have always had short hair because of how thin it is.

For lack a a proper hair cuttery, my hair has grown out.

Before
After
Wow! This is quite a change. Cross your finger- I think my mom found a hair salon!

What I love...

Slippers!!!!!

Hello! I hope you liked my last post, it made quite a splash in my family. We are still divided in half about the ultimate  goodness of it. I haven't been lazy, lately. My mom has been keeping Sadie and I on our toes, and I have been writing a lot. We have a surprise planned for our cousins, and we have been working on it daily. (We hope to finish it by Christmas) Also, my mom is letting us write letters. I love to write letters, but my last attempt at a letter to a Fantasy-Footbal rival needed four attempts. Apparently I wrote too much trash-talk, sarcasm, and general complaints. My mom decided that my first drafts were  failures when I claimed that root beer and candy were nessesities. Go figure.

My main comfort are in a pair of beautiful sheepskin slippers which I wear all day. They the fruit of my labor, the prize of my possessions.

Poor Forsaken Mia

To Whoever Cares:

Dear Whoever,

Upon this eve I regret to inform you that I am ailing from a sudden bout of disease. Although at an a normal temperature, yours truly is suffering from all the symptoms that inhabit a fever. Upon recognizing the utter barbarism it would be to bestow this ailment upon any other live being, I refrained from going to church, as it was a Sunday. To reward this sacrifice, I was shunted into my bedroom, only allowed the trifles that my nearly bare  room had, to use, and not allowed a proper supper, which brings this author to the present.

The bias in this snippet has been kept to a minimum, but the injustice of my kinfolk's treachery bring me to a point at which this episode MUST show fury. These feelings started when I came down to beg for a scrap of food. Upon being greeted  by my Gemini, she denounced my claim to being diagnosed and granted me the title of " A mean person " for my concern for our guests and their health. Suggestions such as " why don't you just sleep for the rest of the day?" haunted my nearly infected ears, they forgetting that 4/6 hours of my wake had been occupied with this feat.

Alas, alas, the time has come for me to take my leave and perish the thought of ever being angry at my brethren. But this, as a testament for you, is ended, and so will I try to make the anger do so also.

Not Quite So Enthusiastically Yours,

The Quiet and Long-Suffering,
 Mia.

This post was written when I was feeling very sad indeed, like now. I happen to be in a bit of a pickle.

Mommy, dear, sweet mother that she is, decided that I was the ultimate reason that my siblings wouldn't do their chores. So, she decided to take all my electricity for the weekend if we didn't clean the house.

My siblings are kind people, but, they say to themselves, the cavemen survived without electricity, so Mia can survive too.

Is this unfair? I think so! This WILL, most definitely be my last post because pigs will fly before we clean the house.

Goodbye.

 I love soup.

I especially love this soup, which we are having for dinner.

It is fantastic.

It is marvelous.

I love it.

How to I meet it? Well, it started when we went to Austria. I've been told many, many times by angry family members that I like very a very small collection of food. This food was the only food I liked in Austria- which means it has to be delicious if I like it!

(Try it with bread!)
